Do you know what your masking tape options are for high-temperature applications? Have you used masking tape just to see film peel off, leaving adhesive baked onto your part? If so, you may not be using high enough rated tape to withstand your process.
We've compiled a ranked list of recommended heat resistant tapes to use during high-temperature applications, like Powder Coating and E-Coating.
Glass Cloth Tape (500°F)
Glass cloth tape is made of woven fiberglass backing coated with silicone adhesive, making it flame retardant and great for thicker coat and high-temperature applications. Glass cloth tape is commonly used in powder coating because of this, but should not be used during e-coating due to its porous material.
Polyimide Tape (500°F)
Rusty Red Poly Tape (425°F)
Rusty red polyester tape is made with a good adhesive alternative where the high heat properties of polyimide or glass cloth are unnecessary, making it a more economical choice for temperature resistance requirement greater than green polyester tape.
Green Poly Tape (400°F)
Green polyester tape is the industry standard (and favorite) for general-purpose powder coating applications.
Blue Poly Tape (400°F)
Blue polyester tape is a widely used powder coating tape that is best for use on uneven and curved surfaces, and ideal for masking of materials subjected to high temperatures.
